Biomimetics has given rise to new technologies inspired by biological solutions at macro and nanoscales. Humans have looked at nature for answers to problems throughout our existence. Nature has solved engineering problems such as self-healing abilities, environmental exposure tolerance and resistance.

Specific  maize  strains have been  genetically engineered  to express agriculturally-desirable traits, including resistance to pests and to herbicides.  Maize  strains with both traits are now in use in multiple countries.   A  chimera  is essentially a single organism that's made up of cells from two or more "individuals"—that is, it contains two sets of DNA, with the code to  make  two separate organisms.
