coal power

Formation of coal power
Coal is formed if dead plant matter decays into peat and over millions of years the heat and pressure of deep burial converts the peat into coal. ... As a fossil fuel burned for heat, coal supplies about a quarter of the world's primary energy and two-fifths of
itselectricity.

How does coal power work?
Coal-fired plants produce electricity by burning coal in a boiler to produce steam. The steam produced, under tremendous pressure, flows into a turbine, which spins a generator to create electricity. The steam is then cooled, condensed back into water and returned to the boiler to start the process over.

RISK OF COAL POWER

Air emissions from coal-fired power plants cause serious human health impacts. ... Hazardous air pollutants released by coal-fired power plants can cause a wide range of health effects, including heart and lung diseases. Exposure to these pollutants can damage the brain, eyes, skin, and breathing passages.

Benefits of coal power

This study shows that there are potential environmental benefits to using
power-plant flue gas as a source of CO 2 for microalgae cultivation and cofiring
the algae with coal for electricity production. 2. Microalgae production.

Coal, gas, and oil are the fossil fuels responsible for most of the world's electricity and energy demands. Coal, which is readily available in most of the developing and developed world, has been used as a major source of fuel even in ancient human civilizations. It also found its use in historic steam engines at the dawn of the industrial revolution.
Today, advances in technology have allowed coal to improve living conditions with its current role in meeting man’s fuel needs.
Reliability. One of the greatest advantages of coal fired plants is reliability. Coal’s ability to supply power during peak power demand either as base power or as off-peak power is greatly valued as a power plant fuel.
Affordability. Energy produced from coal fired plants is cheaper and more affordable than other energy source Abundance. There are approximately over 300 years of economic coal deposits still accessible.
Known technologies. The production and use of coal as a fuel are well understood, and the technology required in producing it is constantly advancing.
Safety. Generally, coal fired plants are considered safer than nuclear power plants.
